Dow Rises 112 Points, Sets Another Record

The Dow Jones Industrial Average set another closing high Tuesday, gaining 111.9 points, 0.77%, to close at 14,559.65. It was the largest one-day gain since March 5, and the Dow’s ninth record close of recent weeks. The benchmark is now up 11.1% in 2013.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index continues to inch towards its record, rising 0.78% to close at 1,563.77. That’s the index’s second-highest closing value, behind only the record 1,565.15 hit on Oct. 9, 2008. The S&P has gained 9.65% this year.

The Russell 2000 index rose 0.42% to 949.82, slightly off its record of 953.07 hit on March 14. The small-cap index has risen 11.8% this year, and is up 4.25% in March.
