Apple Inc. (AAPL) Rumors –Qualcomm Wants an ‘iPhone Guru’

Here is your daily Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) stock news and rumors for August 27. The closer Apple Inc.’s big media event in San Francisco comes, the more details about the new iPod line seem to leak out. Meanwhile, technology manufacturer Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM) posts a job listing that all but confirms the CDMA iPhone.

More Details on iPod 4G and New iPod Nano Leak Out: More details of AAPL’s line up of redesigned iPods are hitting the net in anticipation of next week’s media event. Jeremy Horwitz, editor-in-chief of iLounge, is reporting that the fourth generation of iPod Touch will include many of the those features mentioned in rumors published throughout the summer, but one major unexpected change will be the media player’s new casing. Rather than the curved, iPhone-like form of the iPod Touch 2G/3G, the iPod Touch 4G will have a flat back making its new form factor more similar to Apple Inc.s MacBook Pro laptops rather than previous iPods. In addition to the previously rumored 5-megapixel camera, the iPod Touch 4G will also have a camera on its back, with a small microphone positioned near the lens for quick and easy video shooting. Also, pictures of an Apple Inc.-made the 2-inch touch-screen have been popping up online since June. Previously thought to be a component of a new iPod Shuffle, Horwitz says the iPod mate to the screen is going to be branded as an iPod Nano. We’ll know for sure after Apple’s San Francisco event on September1.

iPhone Rumors Heat Up as Qualcomm Seeks Developer: Qualcomm, the technology manufacturer that’s long been rumored to be providing chipsets for APPL’s impending CDMA iPhone, has posted a job listing this week looking for an “iPhone Developer Guru” to help a develop a “secret” project. While those quotation marks have been added here to indicate that these phrases are directly quoted from Qualcomm’s listing, they can also be seen as blatant, winking confirmation of a CDMA version of Apple’s popular smartphone. That said, the posting may be a red herring; Qualcomm also has an active Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) Android phone development team, so they may just be learning to get a new employee familiar with the competition. Qualcomm is actually the company that invented the original CDMA-based cellular phone fifteen years ago.

New MacBook Pro Firmware Fixes Freezing Problem: EFI Firmware Update 1.9 is now available for APPL’s 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro laptops. The new firmware should come as comfort to any customers who purchased a MacBook Pro since the line’s new models were released in April and have worried that they might need to update their computer’s protection policy. The new firmware fixes problems with stalling and freezing when connected to external displays, issues that have troubled the laptops since they began shipping in the spring.
