Verizon Wireless (VZ, VOD) yesterday began selling the Salute, a phone produced by China-based ZTE. It’s the first phone from ZTE to be sold by one of the major U.S. carriers.
The Salute is a pretty basic slider model with a 1.3 MP camera, a 2.4-inch screen and a $19.99 price tag after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new two year service agreement.
According to Bloomberg, ZTE is in talks on selling phones through T-Mobile and Sprint (S) as well. The company plans to enter the U.S. smart phone market in 2011.
