Shares of wireless patent owners InterDigital (IDCC) are up $1.99, or 4%, at $51.53 after the company this morning announced its board of directors is considering a “broad range of potential strategic alternatives for the company,” which could include selling to a single buyer or a consortium, in whole or in part, it said.
InterDigital has been the subject of takeover rumors for most of this year, as patent battles have raged between the two camps in the smartphone world, Google’s (GOOG) Android, and Apple’s (AAPL) iOS.
Update: DealReporter is apparently writing that a consortium is, indeed, interested in buying the company. More as it develops.
